Bernetha Messner, 95, formerly of Denver, died March 9, 2010, in Ephrata Manor, where she resided since 1994. Born in Denver, a daughter of Herman M. and Emma S. (Enck) Althouse, her husband, Arthur W. "Jack" Messner, died Feb. 20, 1970. A member, former Sunday school teacher and choir member of St. John's UCC, Denver, she retired in 1984 from Cocalico School District where she was a cafeteria worker.
Surviving: son, Jack (Linda) Messner, Hummels-town; grandchildren, Emily Piperato, and Rachel and Ben Messner; 3 great- grandchildren; and brother, Kenneth Althouse. Bernetha had preplanned private graveside services in Muddy Creek Cemetery, Swartzville.
