Donald R. Metzger, Sr., 84, of Mountville passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009. He was the husband of Betty Gingerich Metzger with whom he celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on April 20, 2009. He was born in Columbia, son of the late John A. and Ellen Schlossman Metzger. He worked for the former ITT Grinnell Corporation for 38 years where he was Security Chief and a Master Millwright before retiring in 1986. He was a Mountville Borough Police Officer from 1954 to 1974 and served as Chief for 13 years. He was a Mountville Borough Constable for 30 years from 1961 to 1991. A member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and it's men's fellowship. A veteran of the US Navy and the US Marine Corps serving during WWII, 1943-1946, serving 19 months in the Pacific Theater. A life member of the Mountville Fire Company and the Shawnee Fire Company, Columbia. His memberships included: the Sixth Street Indians; Charter member of the Lancaster County Law Enforcement Association; Lancaster Industrial Security Council; Lancaster Safety Council; Lancaster County Constable Association; Lancaster County Fire Police Association; National Fire Investigator's Association; ITT Grinnell Management Club; he was a 32nd Degree Mason with Columbia Lodge
286 F and AM; Lancaster Lodge of Perfection; Valley of Lancaster Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Valley of Harrisburg Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Zembo Shriner's A.A.O.N.M.S., Harrisburg and Lancaster County Shrine Club. He enjoyed going on bus trips throughout the United States; going to Stone Harbor, NJ and Lake Wales, FL with his family.See the full content of this document
