He was baptized at Grace EC Church in 1938 and was a member of Ironville United Methodist Church; a veteran of the US Navy; a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1956; Millersville University with a Bachelor of Science Degree; Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies; Temple University with a Master of Science in Education and George Washington University with a Masters in Government Contracting. He received numerous government awards and in 1992 he received the Emeritus Service Award. A member of Lodge
286 F and AM Columbia for over 50 years and the Order of DeMolay. He was a Boy Scout with Troop 66, the Throwing Bull Tribe and the Toastmasters Club.
