Summary
John C. Pittenger, former Pennsylvania Secretary of Education, died yesterday at the age of 79, from the complications of Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his wife, Pauline; by two stepsons, Josiah Leet of Lancaster and Matthew Leet of Oakland, California; and by a sister, Jane Kellenberger, of Boulder, Colorado.
Pittenger was born on May 23, 1930, the son of Nicholas Otto Pittenger and Cornelia Chapman Pittenger. He was educated in the public schools of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania and at the Phillips Exeter Academy, and graduated from Harvard College and the Harvard Law School.
